Venezuela Can’t Wait: Help Move Relief Faster
On Wednesday, June 24, two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela in rapid succession, leaving families displaced, communities cut off, and critical infrastructure severely damaged.
Venezuela was already among the countries in the region most affected by food insecurity. For families already struggling to afford basic groceries, the earthquakes have made an already fragile situation even more urgent.
The emergency response has begun. Now it needs to scale.
AT A GLANCE
- 1,200+ people received direct food assistance in Catia la Mar, La Guaira, on Sunday, June 28, marking the beginning of WFP’s emergency response.
- One month of food assistance was provided through initial rations for affected families.
- The first of three mobile storage units has been installed in La Guaira and will serve as a temporary response hub.
- 30 metric tons of food and 10 metric tons of non-food items have been pre-positioned near the response center so operations can begin without delay.
- Up to 500,000 people are expected to be reached in the first three months, with capacity to scale to one million if sufficient funding is secured.
