Women’s Empowerment

Promoting gender equality and empowering women is a pivotal part of accelerating economic growth and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Gender equality contributes to poverty reduction, higher levels of health and education and improved effectiveness of public investments. However, in many countries, gender inequality persists, and women face discrimination in access to education, work and government participation. Violence, poverty and cultural norms continue to undermine women by barring them from secondary education and fruitful employment. Our partner organizations implement innovative programs in the following areas to promote gender equality and empower women:

• Access to the labor force
• Education
• Capacity building and vocational training
• Microentrepreneurship
• Water and sanitation
• HIV/AIDs care & prevention
• Family planning
• Sexual and reproductive health
