Desvelando Oris is a nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking cycles of structural racism, gender inequality, and systemic violence in Brazil. The organization democratizes access to information, expands opportunities, and nurtures Black talent, especially women and youth, in vulnerable communities.

The Challenge

Brazil is a country of stark contrasts. While 56% of the population identifies as Black, this majority continues to face the highest rates of poverty, unemployment, violence, and underrepresentation in positions of power. Seventy percent of people living in poverty are Black, and every 21 minutes a young Black person is murdered. Black women account for two-thirds of all femicide victims, while trans people in Brazil live, on average, only 35 years. These realities underscore the urgency of systemic solutions that advance racial and gender equity.

The Approach

Desvelando Oris combines education, culture, racial justice, and advocacy to empower communities and create pathways for dignity and leadership. Key programs include:

• Gira de Oris: Leadership development and mentoring for Black women in vulnerable situations.
• Pontes para o Futuro: Professional mentorship for young Black talent.
• Uma Janela para o Mundo: Racial literacy and culture of peace initiatives in public schools.
• Locus: Power & Justice: Strategic litigation, advocacy, and training to make Brazil’s justice system more inclusive.
• Reaja!: Emergency assistance for families facing hunger, housing insecurity, or climate-related disasters.
• Closet Solidário & Cultural Festivals: Fashion, arts, and leisure as tools for self-esteem and inclusion.
• Circulando Saberes: An annual seminar engaging more than 10,000 participants in dialogue on race, gender, and human rights.

The Impact

Desvelando Oris has directly reached more than 35,000 people, 85% Black, 70% women, and 60% youth. By 2026, the organization aims to reach 50,000 beneficiaries, train 500 young people and Black women through mentorship and acceleration programs, and prepare 200 corporate leaders to implement inclusive practices.
