From School Meals to Leadership | Building Change in Nicaragua
Through education, nutrition, and community empowerment, COMPALCIHT has been improving the lives of children, women, and families in Tipitapa, Nicaragua since 1997. What began as a small local effort has grown into a solid, community-driven organization dedicated to fighting poverty and building opportunities for the most vulnerable.
Each day, COMPALCIHT provides nutritious meals to 480 children in its community dining centers, meals that often make the difference between hunger and healthy growth. Through regular visits, the team ensures food quality and adapts menus to meet children’s needs, offering balanced dishes that include oatmeal, pinolillo, pasta, and protein sources like liver and meat.
Beyond nutrition, COMPALCIHT invests in the leadership and training of 96 mothers, teaching food preparation, hygiene, and nutrition practices that strengthen household food security and community well-being. Many of these women have become active leaders, helping replicate positive change across Tipitapa.
