Established in 1999, Unión de Empresarios para la Tecnología en la Educación (UNETE) is an award-winning nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the quality and equity of education in Mexico. UNETE empowers teachers to integrate technology into their classes, with the support of trainers who are present in classrooms for one school year. These trainers develop teachers’ and students’ digital skills, equip media labs with technology and provide access to digital education content as well as pedagogical and technical support.
UNETE works to expand access to technology and instruction to children and youth, particularly in underserved communities, which helps to bridge the country’s digital divide. Intensive teacher training and on-going support is combined with effective use of technology in learning to ultimately empower students with the tools and knowledge they need to achieve their potential and succeed in an increasingly globalized and competitive world. UNETE works in 49% of municipalities throughout Mexico, and has provided 8,774 schools with digital media classrooms, benefiting over 2.6 million students and 108,842 teachers.
