Sebastián Farías is a 20 year-old student attending the Agroecological School of Pirque (EAP), a high school run by The Resource Foundation’s Chilean affiliate, Fundación Origen.  Like many youth attending EAP, he works part-time in the tourism industry and in a nearby restaurant to help support his large family. "I used to work without knowing the best way to cultivate coffee," says Maurico. "Then, I was selected by Funbanhcafé to visit other small farmers who showed us their neatly tended plots. For the first time I realized I could become a much better coffee grower. I learned to make and use compost and to plant shade trees and other plants to protect the soil from erosion. I also learned about crop rotation to enrich the soil and provide better food for my family." Read Mauricio's Story

2010 Impact Report

In 2010, The Resource Foundation implemented 189 projects in 28 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. An estimated 538,716 individuals benefited directly from these grants, and a further 1,409,037 benefited indirectly. The organizations that we work with are all local, community driven NGOs that seek to help the disadvantaged through holistic programs. Demographic groups that are targeted include marginalized indigenous populations, mentally and physically disabled individuals, single mothers, orphaned or neglected children, elderly people, people living with HIV/AIDS, and internally displaced persons (many of our beneficiaries fall into several of these categories). Recently we have focused on disaster relief victims following two outstanding catastrophes that affected Chile and Haiti in early 2010.
